Cengiz Cinnioglu, Ph.D.

Founder & CEO

Dr. Cengiz Cinnioglu is the founder and CEO of Luminary Genetics. He earned his undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics, and PhD in Forensic Science & Genetics from Istanbul University, Turkey. His career began in the Hemogenetic Department doing paternity testing at Istanbul University's Institute of Forensic Sciences and the Faculty of Law.

Dr. Cinnioglu then joined a pioneering research group led by world-renowned geneticist Dr. Luca-Cavalli Sforza in tracking the genetic history of mankind at Stanford University in the Human Population Genetics Laboratory. After completing his Ph.D., he continued to work in the same department as a post-doctoral fellow in research involving the molecular analysis of human DNA sequence variation in human populations and single nucleotide polymorphism discoveries on Y chromosomes.

After his post-doctorate fellowship, he transitioned to genetic diagnosis on early human embryo development using the fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) technique. He then joined Natera (Gene Security Network) in early 2007 to develop the world’s first application of new cutting-edge microarray technology screening all chromosomes on early human embryos and has coauthored numerous patent applications during his research there.

He has numerous peer-reviewed publications in respected scientific journals including Nature, American Journal Human Genetic, Human Genetics, Fertility and Sterility, and has presented at many national and international conferences. Dr. Cinnioglu has a Laboratory Director License for Genetic Testing (Microarray for PGT-A), Cytogenetics, Andrology, and Parentage/Identity testing from the New York State Department of Health. He is a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, The American Association of Bioanalysts, and The Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis International Society.
